How to Be a Degrowth Practitioner and Activist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What can you do about an overgrown economy that is burning too much energy, consuming too many resources, damaging the biosphere, and failing to provide shared prosperity? \u201cDegrowth!\u201d is the one-word answer. But what is needed to organize a compelling degrowth movement? And what on-the-ground actions can breathe life into a thriving and just local economy that works within nature\u2019s limits? If businesses and governments aren\u2019t going to lead the charge to right-size the economy, then it\u2019s up to us, the ones who understand the problem of overshoot and care enough to take action.<\/p><p>Post Carbon Institute Executive Director <strong>Asher Miller<\/strong> is joined by <a href=\"https:\/\/anitranelson.info\/\"><strong>Anitra Nelson<\/strong><\/a>, PhD, a degrowth scholar and activist at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Anitra has written many books about degrowth and the systemic changes needed to make the shift to a post-capitalist, post-carbon, post-consumerist economy, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plutobooks.com\/9780745340111\/beyond-money\/\"><em>Beyond Money: A Postcapitalist Strategy<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plutobooks.com\/9780745342023\/exploring-degrowth\/\"><em>Exploring Degrowth: A Critical Guide<\/em><\/a>. She not only studies and promotes these ideas, but also puts them into practice. Anitra is a tiny house champion and works with Cohousing Australia and other organizations to develop ecologically sound and collaborative housing.
